Our Honeybees
At the farm, we decided to move to a more natural approach to beekeeping, letting bees do things their way. And after some research and based on experiences from friends we decided to try the Topbar Hive beekeeping method.
The Topbar Hive provides honeybees a low-stress, healthy home. As many other beekeepers we believe that with less manipulation, pressure, and interference from us, avoiding pesticides and chemicals, bees will build a strong colony and maintain strong immunity. There are many approaches and theories about the best beekeeping practices. But as the Penn State report indicates… “ bees thrive where there is plant diversity, a stable, local, natural habitat, and no pesticides.”
Even when a new way of managing bees can be challenging for beekeepers like us that have always followed the standard methods to raise bees, we are happy for this decision and feel that this is a step to a sweet and sustainable relationship!
We look forward to enjoy our wildflower honey which has hints of blackberries or tones of molasses depending on the location of the hives.
Our chickens
Our animals are raised on fresh grass and sunshine. Our chickens are given free access to fresh grass, soil, insects and fresh air.
They are allowed to run free, scratch, forage, to take dust baths and bask in the sun.
Happy hens make better eggs!
