The Farm Fairy @ your backyard strives to create fertile ground for new ideas, a new way to get people in close connection to the food they eat, one garden at a time.
“Let’s Grow our Food Together”
How it works:
We use the Square Foot Gardening method of Mel Bartolomew. It is a popular method, an effective and tidy way to create a mini farm in your back yard and that will give you back a bunch of fresh healthy vegetables (that you already picked from the vegetable list) during the season -through May to October- depending on weather conditions.
We need an area that gets 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily, that stays clear of trees and bushes in that way, roots and shade don’t interfere, close to the house and with an spigot.
Layout:
*The mini farms are arranged in squares (boxes that hold the compost mix).
*Number of boxes, depending on your family needs.
*We provide the compost, seeds, and plant transplants.(see the List of Vegetables)
• We set up the minifarms (boxes with compost and watering system) and they are yours to keep, do the first planting (to get the minifarms up and running) and we also guide, support and share our knowledge with you during our monthly visits during the growing season (May-October) and,
• You do the rest (weeding, staking, monitoring the plants health, harvesting, etc).
Gardening tips and advice will be offered anytime online.
We offer these options:
A mini farm (large) that can provide produce to a family of 4.
A mini farm (small) that can provide produce for a couple. (or vegetables and flowers for a single)
You need to fill a questionnaire to let us know about you, in example: how often do you cook at home, how many people are in your family, any vegetarian?, culinary preferences, any animal running loose in your backyard?
We are going to provide you with a list of vegetables that we’ll be growing and you circle your choices.
Based on the information you provide we’ll advise you which option of mini farm suits your family need best.
Monthly visits: during the monthly visits we are going to check the gardens, the plants development and do any replacement and planting that need to be done.
We are going to provide with a list of simple and natural growing and harvesting tips.
We are going to send you a monthly newsletter to keep you informed and at the same time to share joys and concerns among brand new “mini farmers” who join us in this adventure.
When available, honey and eggs will be on sale and may be pre-ordered to get them the same day we do the visits.
